New Years Eve.
I like the way The Man Repeller put it, and I think it’s best: New Years Eve is like Halloween’s sister. For one reason or another, it’s been stressing me out even though I know better than to waste my time and energy and focus on doing what brings me happiness and peace. The holiday season, in general, has got me really bugged out this year, stomach twisted into knots of...

Winter Break. Pt II
Some more slow-walking, some more pictures! Enjoy.  {A monument of Samuel S. Cox—do we know who that is?} {Love these stone chess tables at Tompkins Square Park} {Panino picnic :) Fresh hero rolls, pesto, prosciutto, and Italian truffle cheese} Hopefully more to come soon!

Winter Break. Pt I
It’s been really nice to be in New York, albeit a bit odd, with no purpose. With the semester ended for a couple weeks now, I’ve had time to sleep in, take a coffee alone, and walk around the neighborhoods and streets I usually rush through, very, very slowly. And it’s been nice.  Here are a few pictures I snapped while on a nighttime walk on West Fourth Street.  {Empty and...

Something to read.
February 17, 1903, Paris.  No one can advise or help you—no one. There is only one thing you should do. Go into yourself. Find out the reason that commands you to write; see whether it has spread its roots into the very depths of your heart; confess to yourself whether you would have to die if you were forbidden to write. This most of all: ask yourself in the most silent hour of your...

Garance Dore.
I love this woman’s blog. She has such an eye for capturing beautiful women in beautiful places, all with a touch of simplicity. As of late, she’s been publishing a series of photos that she has never published before, which makes them ultra-cool (like her). I’ve been reading her blog, and it’s been interesting seeing all of these new, unpublished photos. Here are some of...

A few of my favorite things.
This post is dedicated to one of my favorite fashion features. Secretive, yet open. Subtle, yet defining. Its rounded-edges or sharp starchy folds have framed necks for centuries. Though seemingly unnoticeable, its absence leaves a humble mystery for its beholder. Traditional, ornate, textured, jeweled, patterned, or plain, its long-forgotten being has made a recent and strong comeback, necklacing...

Oh, the places you'll go: Bk.
Last weekend, my friend Megan (who I wrote about not too long ago) was leaving the city to return to Santa Cruz, and Jamie was leaving to go home for the holidays, so we wanted to all hang out one last time. Megan got to see the beautiful view of Manhattan from Jamie and Daniel’s apartment, where Daniel posed with the owl he and Jamie bought, and we ate way too much Polish food.  {Wreath...

Kanye West's Twitter
…is probably one of my favorite things on the Internet, and let’s be real, the options of where to roll your eyeballs over on the inter-web are ENDLESS.  But Kanye’s twitter is awesome.  Have you ever read it?  You should. This was not my first time reading it, but every time I do somehow end up there through an intricate wandering of web-browsing, I end up chuckling at my...

Oh, the places you'll go: Coney Island.
This week, I’ve had the pleasure of my friend Megan visiting me. She’s wanted to do lots of non-touristy and original things in the city, which is great because she’s had a true New York City experience. She’s spent her days going to coffee shops I’ve told her about, seeing the Kandinsky exhibition, sifting through thrift stores, hanging out at The Strand, and taking...

A few of my favorite things.
There’s something special and timeless about backless dresses that really capture my fancy. Done right, it can simultaneously be graceful and provocative, a silent boldness that speaks volumes about the dress and the woman wearing it.  This photo of Blake Lively does the backless dress justice—the updo, the outline, the poppy color (my current favorite) are together a charming and...

Ladies I Like.
Earlier today, I came across this short of Marion Cotillard as Lady Dior. If you haven’t seen it, do so now (below). Marion Cotillard is unlike any women I’ve ever read, written, or thought about before. I get self-conscious about thinking of her iconic role as America’s favorite French export in Hollywood, her undeniably attractive and mysterious allure, the visceral...

Stranded.
I am officially three-fourths done with this semester. I have one final paper left, and I am so excited for the work to be over because I have such a longing to visit The Strand and pick up some books to read over the winter break. I really want to re-read Shame by Salman Rushdie (check it out if you haven’t, it’s a remarkable though lesser-known piece), and continue reading The...

Writing final papers.
There’s something about Calvin and Hobbes that I absolutely love. I have images of some of my favorite strips saved in a folder on my computer, like this one, so that I can just open it up and chuckle when I’m down. This particular strip is quite fitting for my finals week, as I’m writing very long papers for several different classes. Even now, Bill Waterson makes me smile.

A few of my favorite things.
I have an entire board on my Pinterest account that is dedicated to my ‘Dream Apartment.’ There is something about mirrors, empty frames, chalkboards, and luggage as furniture that really appeals to me. Occasionally I research and sift through other people’s boards for ideas, and these are some of my favorites so far:  {framed chalkboard}  {double mirrors}  {louis...
